VTS: Why Chichester?


Why Come to Chichester for
General Practice Training?

A very attractive area to live and work.

Delightful countryside and coast with huge opportunities for leisure activities, particularly water sports.

Long established vocational training scheme.

Based at St Richards Hospital, Chichester. St Richards has a strong reputation for both undergraduate and postgraduate training. It is a modern hospital with an excellent working environment.

Jobs available.

On the scheme are Accident and Emergency, Medicine, Surgery, which comprises acute input from the Medical Assessment Unit together with Care of the Elderly, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Palliative Care and Psychiatry.

VTS

This 3 year scheme comprises 2 years in hospital followed by one year as a General Practice Registrar in a local training practice. During the SHO posts, arrangements are made for an on-going link with a local practice and release for 1-2 days in each 4 month period.

Complete your training with a registrar post.

There are 12 training practices attached to the scheme which offer full and part-time training. The practices extend from Arundel to Southbourne and include both Chichester and Bognor Regis.

Extensive educational programme.

With local trainer registrar groups and a day- release course shared with Worthing VTS. The day release course is very popular with a high reputation. It is designed to be fun. It concentrates on skills and attitudes and includes 3 residential components.

The future

A high percentage of doctors who have trained on the Chichester VTS and in local practices stay and are now working locally. It’s difficult to leave!
